About this deal

Standalone is my term, but these gateways require the UniFi Network application to be run on another piece of hardware such as a Cloud Key, local PC/server, or cloud service. The USG models are nearing the end of their useful life, while the UXG models are current. Cloud Gateways — Dream MAchines One other note on terminology: you may see “UniFi controller” used. This is a generic term for a device that runs the UniFi Network application. That software configures and monitor UniFi networks.

EdgeRouters expose more networking features in their web interface, and can be configured through a command line. EdgeRouters are more traditional networking equipment, where UniFi is “software defined” and managed by the UniFi Network application. Outside of a few setup wizards, the EdgeRouter and EdgeSwitch products don’t hold your hand, and they expect you to be able to configure things manually. The slower CPU makes it a bit of a step down in raw computational power, but the addition of PoE out, storage, and support for one other UniFi application makes it a bit more powerful than the UDM. The UDR will work well for a small network with a few switches, APs, or cameras. It would not be a good solution for a large network with a lot of clients. For most, the slower CPU will just lead to slower performance loading videos from Protect, or loading the UniFi Network application interface. For others, it makes the UDR not able to handle their needs. This really does make total sense as an addition that I could see becoming standard when the next version is released or certainly the ability to physically add the drive in after manufacturer if needed. It has POE! Run the same Unifi Applications (Network, Protect, Access, Talk) and one other but we'll ignore that. While many routers are able to support (WAN to LAN) throughputs of close to 1 Gbps in their default modes, switching on SQM (if available) usually reduces available throughputs dramatically. While throughput reductions may not affect broadband users with relatively modest speeds, up to now, broadband users with ultrafast broadband connections (with speeds in excess of 300 Mbps) have not (until the release of the UDM Pro) been well served. What also sets the UDM Pro apart from many other routers (including Ubiquiti’s own EdgeRouter series) is an exciting set of features. The in-built UniFi Controller software allows the provision and management of a range of UniFi devices, which include best-in-class Wi-Fi Access Points, through a single, centralised interface.

With the 128Gb internal Drive - Network won't need it and you shouldn't use it for protect. So it comes down to the other software applications Ubiquiti Provide and do you have a network large enough. Connect one end of your Ethernet cable to your modem or router, then connect the other end to the RJ45 Internet port on the front of the UDM-Pro (Port 9 in the Hardware Overview table). Resets to factory defaults. The device should be running after bootup is complete. Press and hold the Reset button for about 10 seconds until the display indicates that the device has reset itself. After a few seconds, the LED will turn off, and the device will automatically reboot. The UDM-Pro runs UniFi OS, which means it can also run the UniFi Protect, UniFi Talk and UniFi Access software if needed. UniFi Protect is their network video recording software. Talk is for controlling their VoIP phones, and Access is their upcoming access control system. More on those later. The 4th chart shows the Dream Machines. These have been called UniFi OS Consoles, Gateway Consoles, and now Cloud Gateways. They act as routers or firewalls, and also run the UniFi software applications like Network and Protect. These can’t be used with Cloud Keys, cloud services, or a self-hosted UniFi Network application.

Enterprise 8 PoE

This has been one of the biggest debate and wished for things ever since the UDM PRO was first announced. And they have added it to the Special addition - all 8 ports (6 are 802.3af and 2 are 802.3at)

If you have been with Unifi for a long time, you probably have the USG + Unifi Managed Switch + Cloud Key combo like I do in my smart home network. The UDM-Pro or UDM-SE essentially replace all 3 of those devices. So sure if you need any of the additional features of these newer devices, go ahead. But if you are happy with your current setup, there’s no need to upgrade. Conclusion We were also able to use the iOS app to add the USW PoE switch to our account, and were blown away by its clever augmented reality (AR) feature: point your device camera at the ports and a live overlay immediately pops up, showing which ones are active and what’s connected to them. While the USG and USG-Pro are older, they have some features which have not shown up in the newer products. Namely, any feature which requires manually editing the JSON config file on the USG is not possible with the UXGs or Dream Machines. The newer hardware doesn’t have the same underlying architecture, and does not have the same JSON config file workaround. You are limited to what features are exposed in the web interface. Here’s a good example of how to configure an USG to route traffic over an OpenVPN tunnel. If this type of configuration is intimidating to you, take a hard look at what is officially supported. You will be limited to the settings in the web interface unless you are willing to create custom, breakable configurations on old hardware.Designed for convenient monitoring and complete management of your camera surveillance system, the UniFi Protect Controller allows you to set up, configure, and monitor your UniFi cameras using a graphical user interface. You can install it on the UDM Pro (only when an HDD, not included, is installed), and there are no separate software, licensing, hosting, or support fees. Features This is great for small deployments where you might have limited access points and camera's and you don't need a second switch. The price

Even relatively expensive routers deliver maximum IPsec throughputs significantly below 100 Mbps. With its quad-core processor, the maximum throughput with IPsec is a highly impressive 800 Mbps. When the changes have taken effect, you can easily start hosting your server or application on the network and can easily let your friends connect to it. Don’t forget to provide them with the hostname that you’re using as well as the port number, which should look something like this, ‘hostname.domain.com: 25565. Ports needed to run Note: The UDM-Pro's voltage output range is 100-240 volts. Ensure that your power source can accommodate this, as well as any other devices sharing the UDM-Pro's power supply.
