If you are on-the-go, you need a versatile and convenient way to lug all your gear when hiking, camping, or simply traveling from one place to another. That's how we invented HipStar® Spot has accompanied me on two caminos so far - one to Spain - Burgos to Rabanal - last June and then in September/October on part of the Via Francigena (Aosta to Villafranca in Lunigiana) in Italy. This layer is primarily used for retaining body heat, and overall warmth. Consider purchasing microfleece for this layer, as that material will provide the highest amount of heat retention. Whatever you go with, you want to make sure that this layer is providing the best heat. Surprisingly the smaller the tent the better! When you have a smaller tent you can heat up the inside easier than if you had a larger tent. I disagree with there being many Hipstar design ideas that can be copied. The only one useful is his moving to a proper hip belt with detachable webbing fixing straps to give a form of suspension - and I gave him that. Everything is expensively over-machined and over-designed - there is nothing there for me whatsoever - sorry.
