About this deal

So when you hear, it’s a bit like when the scientists talk about the nature of reality and how it’s like an illusion in our brain. Can't speak on the sound of an original pressing or a comparison but overall very impressed and happy with this one. Loveless was like an early version of what a lot of modern electronic records are, in the sense that it was very specific to it was what it was, and it was very controlled within its own domain.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Domino are immensely proud to announce the signing of my bloody valentine, with new physical editions of the band’s seminal catalogue being made available.

A lot of comparisons have been made to bands like Sonic Youth, but since I haven't really listened to them I can't comment. What scientists discovered in the past five years is that when they look at people who work with sound in a professional capacity, the part of their brain [that processes sound] tends to be about five times bigger. Do you feel like people will think this is the best sounding version of Loveless that they’ve heard?

Shields and the band moved further towards a music of pure sensation, creating textures and tones that could be felt as much as heard; with ‘loveless’ the band created an album that overwhelmed the senses. This had the effect of making their gender indistinguishable, to the point where their voices could be used as another melodic layer to complement the vertigo-inducing sounds made by Shields’ guitars.

Although pigeon-holed as 'Shoegazing', it almost sounds like a bastard offspring of Grunge at times, and considering it was released the same year as Nirvana's 'Nevermind,' comparisons to that genre are expected but ultimately unfounded, as the band is deeply rooted in post-punk / alt rock but are utterly unique. Still to this day I have no idea what they're singing about but I find it a uplifting listen and its certainly worthy of the praise bestowed upon it.

Your immersion in the details of sound seems pretty all-encompassing—but you also play with possibly the loudest band that’s ever existed. Loveless was recorded on analog tape, and we mixed to analog tape, but we did all of the post-production, all of the editing, and all of that stuff that makes it Loveless—the way it all flows—in the digital domain. Track lengths can vary from under a minute to close to 7, but at no point does it sound filler or overdrawn, although it can be a bit too droney and repetive for some.

Kevin Shields claimed that listening to these new versions would "definitely" produce a different emotional effect from the originals. Many people will be repulsed by the sound, but if you give it a chance the album grows on you and it makes sense.

Fully analogue cuts of ‘m b v’ will also be available on deluxe and standard LPs globally for the first time. We’re going to play live again, so that’s always a really good way to guarantee that we’ll get the record done.He speaks of it in almost mystical terms, the way a certain kind of circuitry can alter the texture in tiny ways that, he feels, can have an overwhelming impact. He spent about three years recording it and has since spent the better part of five or more years preparing it for new editions, at great personal expense. I wanted to try something rocky that's a bit different, and this is one of the most difficult bands and albums to categorize you can imagine!
